Re: California still quiet despite mag storms

I'm in a disagreeable mood today, and as much fuss as you make about
Casual observations, I can't let you get away with that Chris.
At least in Northern and Central California (NCSN catalog) the increase
In seismicity during the solar flare on 17 April was quite significant.
During the 12 hours of the solar flare, 13 events of Ml>=2 were
Registered in that catalog. On only two other days this year have
This many event been observed in this region - Jan 14 (13 events);
March 11 (14 events). Both cases were associated with strong
geomagnetic storminess. This covers a period of 109 days and the
odds of this many occuring on a single day are therefore about 1 in 36.
Seems all the more significant because these 13 events occurred not
throughout the day, but only in the 12 hours that the geomagnetic storm
was occurring.

Normal, everyday activity for the NCSN catalog - I don't think so.

Following are the number of events per day of ML>=2 found in the
NCSN catalog for the year 2002.
