Electromagnetic studies

I came across this information today - looks like some serious studies to accumulate data on electromagnetics and the relationship of earthquakes to volcanos - this was acutally an announcment of a job opportunity - if anyone wants the specifics on the job let me know.

Demeter (Detection of Electro-Magnetic Emissions Transmitted from
Earthquake Regions) is a scientific program sponsored by the Centre
National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) in Toulouse, France. A micro-satellite
will be launched in the course of 2003 to study the eletromagnetic (EM)
field of the Earth in detail. (see Web site : http://www.cnes.fr).

Two main targets are identified. One is to better understand the
electromagnetic environment of the Earth and its perturbations due to human
activities. And the other goal is to evidence, at the satellite altitude,
possible electromagnetic signals associated with earthquakes, tsunamis and
volcanic eruptions.

To assure the validity of such EM events in relation with specific ground
natural hazards, electromagnetic stations will be set in active seismic and
volcanic regions as Greece for earthquakes prediction and La Fournaise
volcano (Réunion Island) for eruptive events. These ground-based stations
will record the EM field on a large frequency band : from months or years
to 20 or 30 kHz.
