Sudden Commencement Geomagnetic storm starts at 13:23 UT (5:23 PST)

The earth was hit be a strong geomagnetic storm today at 13:23 UT. There was a sudden shift in Hn field nearly doubling it's intensity within 1-2 minutes (GOES). The sudden commencement can be observed on seismograms from Yakutsk, So. Karori, New Zealand, the South Pole and VNDA. Both seismograms in China went off line when the storm hit, perhaps indicating an associated power or communications problem. The longitudes of 21W and 159E were sub-solar and anti-solar at the time of the sudden commencement. Regions within 30 degrees longitude (including the Andreanoff Islands, New Zealand, Kamchatka, Kurils, New Britain, Vanuatu (anti) and the mid-Atlantic Ridge, Spain, and westernmost Europe (sub-solar) are the regions most expected to see seismicity enhancement during the next day.
