Nice article Don, Thanks for posting the link. Although it doesn't immediately appear to have anything to do with earthquakes, it just might on closer examination. For years scientists have been saying there is no communication between the ionosphere and the troposphere. This is certainly a way to change the electrical balance, especially when the ionosphere is especially charged as during a geomagnetic storm brought on by solar effects. The link between tornados and solar storms become clearer. Thanks for the article, Don. On a related matter, several days ago a string was posted and comments were made regarding the luminescense seen in the ocean tsunamis especially in Japan. As you may recall observers noted small "balls of light" in the water during earthquakes and tsunamis - sometimes these balls of luminescent material would be as large as handballs. A recent science news story regarded a possible discovery by people at Oak Ridge of a method of creating desk-top atomic fusion. In this setup a flask of acetone is subjected to sound waves. Bubbles in the acetone coalesce and then implode producing rapid temperatures in the thousands of degrees (perhaps millions). The result is a fiery luminous object in the acetone. Sounds like all the conditions for creating such sonoluminescence are available during earthquakes and tsunamis - lots of bubbles and lots of sound. Maybe this is not a case of piezoelectricity but rather a natural case of sonoluminescence with an occasional nuclear fusion? Something new under the sun or sea?
