APATHY reigns |
Hi Nancy, as always, thanks for the nice comments. As I have said in the past, I personally believe that the main problem here is not that earthquakes cannot be predicted or that people are so preoccupied with arguing with one another that nothing can get done. Instead, the one almost insurmountable problem appears to me to be that: “Apathy Reigns” When a highly destructive earthquake occurs people comment about how we need to develop effective earthquake forecasting programs. But then the dead are buried, the injured get medical treatment, and new buildings take the place of ones which were destroyed by the earthquake. The fact that we need to develop those programs quickly disappears from people’s thoughts as daily problems once again command their attention. With earthquake forecasting there does not appear to be any cure for that apathy problem. The only solution may be for interested parties to develop those programs themselves. And I believe that a number of people who post notes here such as Don, Shan, and myself are attempting to do that. Unfortunately, progress can be painfully slow. But, at least the number of posts to this board are indicating that this is one location where complete apathy does not reign. Regarding your earthquake sensitivity related efforts, In the following report I discussed a simple system for keeping track of important posts to this bulletin board: Proposed Earthquake Forecasting Research Library If you did begin posting earthquake sensitivity related notes here then you might consider using that type of system to keep them organized. You would probably want to check with Canie first regarding that. These are my personal opinions. |
