Hi Petra. I thought it was a very informative article and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series which will be posted between now and Saturday. I thought that you would appreciate it, especially the fact that they will dedicate Saturdays article to preparedness. I know that I tend to read the paper daily, but for those that don't have time to during the week, they oftentimes take the time on the weekend, so Saturday is the perfect day for that article. You never know when you might read a few lines that wind up saving your life later!

I noticed several things leading up to last years quake and had even commented to my mother about it prior to the quake. The signs were there for anyone who wanted to take notice. Springs running that hadn't been since the 1965 subduction quake, strange animal behavior, strange popping that sort of ping-ponged between the southwest and northeast corners of the house for nearly a week prior, the list goes on.

As for what you heard, I'm glad that you will be able to identify that sound in the future. I didn't personally hear what you describe, but I had heard a few unusual tones myself along with some ear fluttering. I had no idea what or if it meant anything at the time. I don't mind adding that I have been hearing a few unusual tones lately and will be interested to see if I can connect them to anything.

I can post the link to the ongoing series, or for those interested, just check out the Seattle Post Intelligencer over the next few days. The Seattle Times also has some articles but doesn't seem to have the ongoing series like the P.I.

These can be viewed in today's edition at: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/earthquake/

I personally switched papers because my carrier changed and it became a game of hide and seek with the paper every morning. It's not too much fun to have to hunt and to find your paper in the bushes in the morning while it's pouring. I switched to the P.I. and it's on the steps every morning :-)
