My partner in crime has never been down there. He knows where it’s at, how to get to it by the various different routes, but has never gone there.

He is a retired biology teacher so maybe he can teach me something about the various greenery that can be found in that area. Now if I can only get him to use English instead of Latin I’ll know what he’s talking about. I always ask him why he uses the Latin name instead of the name the locals call it. He would always say so that anyone from anywhere in the world would know what plant or animal you were talking about.

His brother and I got him so mad one day that he was ready to throw the both of us out of his vehicle. We were deer hunting up in the Shasta area and he was naming some of the plants we drove by. His brother Pat was sitting in the backseat and asked him to speak English so he could understand what he was talking about. I started laughing and I told Pat he made my day and then I looked at Hal and just as I started to say something he said, “Shut up Don. Don’t say a word.” I laughed all the way back to camp. He still uses Latin and I still ask him to translate that into English then we both start laughing.
