There is no particular significance in the quake being a strike slip. The “moment tensor solution” (MTS) is used to identify a particular type of fault such as a strike slip, thrust, down dip, normal, or a combination such as “strike slip with thrust-faulting component, strike slip with normal-faulting component, or strike slip on dipping fault plane or strike slip with down-slip component (vertical fault plane) or an explosion.
