"On April 30, 1999, although sympathetic and in support of Dr. Carayannis' compassionate release, the Court ruled that, under existing statutes, it has no jurisdiction to modify or reduce his sentence in the post-sentencing period. The new day for his incarceration has been postponed to January 31, 2000. "
