One of the programs I recently bought (ugh!) was a copy of Microsoft Encarta World Globe.

It's a pretty nice program. It shows you a globe which you can spin around and zoom in or out. Gives all sorts of information and such.

After playing with it for awhile I realized that it is simply an Orthographic projection.

Well, I can draw Orthographic projections. So I can make basemaps out of World Globe maps and plot any sort of data I want on top of them!

The only problem is that you need to know the center of the map and the distance (vertical) of the image. I can determine these by trial and error but it's incredibly tedious.

Just in cae anybody has a need for this sort of thing.
