Earthquake Forecasting Resources Web Page |
EARTHQUAKE FORECASTING RESOURCES WEB PAGE The following was posted to the sci.geo.earthquakes Internet Newsgroup on January 2, 2002 Two problems which appear to me to be slowing earthquake forecasting and earthquake triggering research are: 1. A lack of communications between scientists around the world interested in those subjects. And, 2. Difficulties with locating important resources such as computer programs which can generate information such as Solid Earth Tide data. Earthquake Forecasting Resources Web Page That Earthquake Forecasting Resources Web page is intended in part to help with both of those problems. There are a variety of earthquake forecasting and earthquake triggering resources listed there such as the addresses of Web sites where earthquake precursors and earthquake triggering processes are being discussed, where data generation computer programs for sun and moon positions and ocean and Solid Earth Tide data can be found, addresses for geomagnetic storm data source Web sites, one for a Web site where a variety of downloadable computer programs can be found, and even one for a Web site which scientists (or anyone) can visit in order to get their own or other people's short notes translated into other languages for free. Anyone knowing about other helpful sites which might be added to that resources Web page can send me that information by using the e-mail address listed at that Web page if they wish. Or, if some person's Web site is already listed there and he or she would like to have its title changed or even removed from that Web page then they can try contacting me about that. EAR TONES LIST Ear Tones - A certain percentage of the population can "hear" high and/or low frequency sounds in one ear or the other, or both, before some earthquakes occur. Those "sounds" may have something like a 10 second duration. Although Ear Tones like that have been discussed at length in Internet Bulletin Board notes and elsewhere over the years, as far as I am aware, at the present time relatively little is known about the source and nature of the signals or how they are able to interact with the human body and mind and be perceived as distinct sounds. That Ear Tone List shows the times when some people are hearing those sounds. It is intended at least in part to serve as an information data base for researchers around the world who would like to study those signals and learn how they work and also determine if they might be used for things such as telling when earthquakes are going to occur. It is my personal hope that the list will represent a step toward the development of a global earthquake precursor data collection and forecasting program such as the following one: A Demonstration Earthquake Prediction Program SOLAR DATA LINKS PAGE Solar Data Links Page - Some people including myself believe that Ear Tones and certain other earthquake sensitivity type phenomena are at times directly or indirectly linked with solar and geomagnetic storm activity. That Solar Data Links Page is intended in part to be an introductory effort aimed at providing people who are earthquake sensitive and people studying that phenomenon with easy access to solar and geomagnetic data which might help them determine if in fact those links do exist. Seismic Activity And Storm Data Those are lists of times when some earthquakes occurred and when some earthquake sensitivity type signals were detected. A procedure for evaluating those types of data is discussed at length at that Web site. These are my personal opinions.
