Re: FFA Success claimed for "mystery" team (March 2000)

In many cases the secondary and primary events are the same. Large FFA
quite often occur. Yes, I do believe that understanding the triggering causes of
the secondary events will be a great help in understanding the triggering causes
of the primary events as well.
FFA are very tricky to present to the geophysical community because of the
long-held paradigm that is slowly crumbling that one earthquake has no effect
on the occurrence of the next. It was only 10 years ago the the mere mention
of earthquakes triggering other earthquakes outside the classical aftershock
zone might have meant ostracism from the geophysical community. Landers
started the crack in the paradigm, but it is rupturing at the pace of a slow earthquake.
Patience is a virtue as is public silence until the time is appropriate. In the
meantime the world has access to the FFA forecasts here on the earthwaves
forum. What a wonderful world we live in, where knowledge can be disseminated
to the masses without first passing through the filter of the elite intellectual
aristocracy.
