By the way, Don's earthquake in Japan was finally listed by NEIS today. They are listing the following event in eastern Japan: O: 01Dec2001 02:26:34 36.1N 138.8E MB=4.3 NEI EASTERN HONSHU, JAPAN Don had forecast: P: 22-26NOV 65 km 35.9N 138.6E MJ 3.8-5.1 Fussa-Machi, Honshu Japan While the earthquake in question lies within 35 km of the predicted epicenter and the magnitude lies in the middle of the forecast magnitude range, the earthquake occurred 5 days late. Probability: This region is really NOT highly seismic, as one might first suppose for an area of Japan. Since Nov. 20, 1998 (3 year to forecast date) there were only 6 days on which a "successful" earthquake occurred. This is a probability of 6/219 = 0.027 for random "success" during a 5-day window (odds of about 1 in 37); and 6/110 = 0.054 during a 10-day window which would include the date of the actual earthquake. In this case odds of about 1 in 19 for random success. Keep the home fires in Japan burning, Don. Don's original forecast (#11191, Nov. 20, 2001) had read: Fussa-Machi, Honshu Japan Earthquake Forecast Posted by Don In Hollister on November 20, 2001 at 18:01:11: Magnitude: 3.8-5.1Mj From: 11/22/2001UTC - To: 11/26/2001UTC Location: Fussa, Honshu Japan Lat: 35.9N - Long: 138.6E - Range: 65Km Hi All. Well I got to make a forecast near my current home, now I get to make one near a place I use to call home. Looking for a 3.8 to 5.1Mj at 35.9N/138.6E. This is about 85Km NW of Fussa, Honshu, Japan.
