Dixie Valley has had some impressive earthquakes in the past and the following are interesting:

DECEMBER 16, 1954 (M=7.1 AND 6.8) These two earthquakes occurred at two separate epicenters across a valley from each other and only four minutes apart. Widespread damaged occurred in Fallon, just 48km away.

According to the locals these earthquakes were triggered by nearby underground nuclear tests occurring at that time. One interesting line I read several times in looking for the information for this post was listed in several articles and it said "these were normal fault sequences." Why should the word "normal" be so consistent in the reports?

Were tests going on at the time? Could be, but we'd have to ask a higher authority about that.
