Chris, Several months ago, SCEC decided not to report events to the USGS list until they had been completely finalized. This means that the list you use is never up to date any longer.. Events may take several weeks to finalize and often will not appear on that list at all because the map and list are for the past 7 days, and finalized events are often not available in that time. Following is a note Kate Hutton sent me regarding this on Sept. 26: Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 06:57:21 -0700 (PDT) "Lowell, I should mention that we have made a change in the Simpson map (Recent Earthquakes in California/Nevada) for southern Cal. We started updating the map following post-processing. This means that bogus events should disappear and a few more small ones should show up, but not right away. This started last week. Kate " Better to use the SCSN listing the the Simpson map. The alternative is to use the on-line catalog which you can ftp from the following site: ftp scec.gps.caltech.edu (login: anonymous; password: Your e-mail address) cd pub cd catalogs cd SCSN get YEAR.cat This catalog is updated regularly. A catalog which is updated even more often is still at : ftp crustal.ucsb.edu login: anonymous Password: your e-mail address cd pub get scal.eq Northern california catalog is also there at get ncal.eq
