Hi Petra. Moving is probably out of the question for most of them. The only life they know comes from the sea. They know the quake is coming as they have been told time and time again. They are hoping against hope that it will not happen during their lifetime.

When I talked to person in 97 during my vacation there I asked him what he thought about the Kobe quake and the expected Tokai quake. He told me he didn’t think about the Tokai quake as he had enough problems living in the present that he didn’t need to think about something that might not occur in his lifetime, and if it does he will either be killed by it, or survive it.
