Take a look at the far-field aftershock forecast map posted by Canie
yesterday (link below). Look at the area of the Central Atlantic Ocean
off the coast of Africa on the equator. You will see the ring which
represents the edge of the p- and s-wave shadow zones at this location.

An unusually large earthquake was located in this area today by NEIS
of Mw 6.3 north of Ascension Island with the following parameters:

15Nov2001 01:03:05.2 1.8S 15.5W 10 MW=6.3 M NEI NORTH OF ASCENSION ISLAND

This earthquake is located at 103.8 degrees from the great Kunlun
earthquake. Eleven earthquakes of Mw>=6 have occurred within 200 km
of today's epicenter in the past 80 years (about one per decade). The
last was a Mw 6.2 on April 4, 1998. The largest ever recorded in this
region was a Mw 7.2 on Apr. 11, 1946.

The FFA forecast had stated regarding this possible event:

"103-107 degrees***: ... Central Mid-Atlantic"
***: The strongest triggering is always expected to be along the
shadow zone boundary between 103-107 degrees from the epicenter."

Also note that a slightly smaller event had followed the great
earthquake in the same general region of China in November , 1997
