Re: Bombay Beach shutoff |
Hi Chris. Welcome to the zoo. Your ideas are intriguing to say the least. I have a theory that has been bugging me for a long time now. For the lack of anything else I call it the “weak link.” In the Bay Area we have a fault by the name of Rodgers Creek fault. To the best of my knowledge there hasn’t been any movement on the southern segment (Rohnert Park to San Pablo Bay) of the fault since 1600. We are getting small to moderate quakes north or it, east of it, south of and west of it. Those are the weak links. There is a lot of creep coming from the northern segment of the Hayward fault. That creep is going somewhere, but it’s not showing it self on the southern segment of the Rodgers Creek fault. When there are no more weak links then that segment will move. How much is anyone guess, but it has had a lot of time to build up a lot stress. Would appreciate any knowledge you may have about this fault.
