Thrust faults do have recurrence intervals. A typical example is the thrust fault along the Central Chile Subduction zone. In this case the interevent time is about 79 years. Great earthquakes have occurred on the section between 33S and 40S in the following years and interevent times: 1570 Ms 8.3 1575 Ms 8.5 77 years 82 years 1647 Ms 8.5, 1657 Ms 8.3 83 years 94 years 1730 Ms 8.7, 1751 Ms 8.5 92 years 84 years 1822 Ms 8.5, 1835 Ms 8.5 84 years 87 years 1906 Ms 8.6 , 1922 Ms 8.3 79 years 1985 Ms 8.0 200? MS 8+ As you can see the interevent period is between 75 and 95 years consistently with a great earthquake followed by a second between 5 and 15 years later. This would place a great earthquake in this area coming soon.
