In terms of the FFA group - they do occasionally include in their forecasts references to how wavefronts are oriented with respect to the major structures in the area, like faults and subduction zones. It is my understanding that waves which affect a long length of fault line simultaneously (i.e. their wavefront is parallel to the faultline) are more capable of triggering larger events than those which affect the fault line sequentially.
