How are you with solid geometry and spherical trigonometry? Given 2 points on a fault line you would find the normal to that line. Then given a quake location you would determine a line from there to the midpoint of the fault segment. The angle between that line and the normal line is the angle of attack, so to speak. Simple, eh? Roger
