Some General Questions-

Hi everyone,

I had some general questions and thought maybe if the answers are good, we all might feel better about LA.

First, although there was some activity in 94 before Northridge, we didn't see that robust of a pattern of micro quakes all over the LA area before 94, right?

Does anyone know if there was a robust pattern of activity like this before 71?

Does anyone know if there was robust activity before 87 Whittier?

Landers/Big Bear was the desert seeing tones of activity?

Finally, I have a book titled "Earthquake Country" that was originally published in 1980. In the section that talks about the 33 Long Beach it has a very small mention that the quake was proceeded for years by foreshocks. Anyone have info on what these foreshocks were like?

In a way, you have to consider that if LA got hit with a major quake soon, you can't say all of us weren't expecting it after all of this. However, when has a major quake hit CA that soon after, any of us could say, "Yeah I was expecting that one today or this week." None that I know of. I know for a fact that although long term scientists expected Loma Prieta, there was no increase in activity to warrant concern (aside from those 2 5+ foreshocks months before).

Anyway, I feel like I'm living in one of those campy Earthquake horror movies, like the one JoAnna Kerns was in and that other one from the 70s where they would have all these small quakes before the big one and you'd see these hero seismologist standing over their seismograms rubbing their chins and making predictions. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Surley folks life can't be imitating art here! :)
