Important - DSAT - Department of Science and Technology - December 12, 2013

My earthquake forecasting computer programs seem to be running fairly well. But instead of circulating information regarding them I have been spending the past few months developing the concepts discussed on the following (indirect address) Web pages:

http://www.freewebs.com/eq-forecasting/DSAT.html

http://www.freewebs.com/eq-forecasting/Science_Organization.html

Those are the first rough versions of the Web pages. And I am quite interested in hearing what recommendations people might have for improving the DSAT (Department of Science and Technology) Web page in particular before I circulate information regarding it around the world.

Its contents are a little harsh regarding governments (they deserve that), Special Interest Groups (they also deserve that) and the international scientific community (also well deserved). However, I might eventually decide to tone down some of that generalized criticism of other scientists in the international scientific community.

The creation of those “Department of Science and Technology” (DSAT) agencies by governments around the world, especially the U.S., could represent the future or the lack of a future for many, many people around the world including visitors to the EarthWaves Web site.

This might determine if you or your children or grandchildren will have a job waiting for you or them when you or they finish school. It might determine if there will be a cure waiting for you for some type of cancer when you need it or some medical technique that could grow a new heart for you from your own body cells instead of your having to wait for a replacement heart from a deceased donor.

Trust me on this: To a large degree, our governments have absolutely NO sense of direction.

And as proof of that I can point to the fact that quite often over the years they have listened to my free humanitarian advice regarding even critically important matters. That advice should have been given to them by their own scientists.

What government officials instead do is determine what they themselves want “science fact” to be. Then they go “cherry picking” in the scientific community until they find enough support that they can say that “scientists” support them on some matter. In a group of 1000 scientists you can probably find a few who will support any opinion.

One of the best examples of “cherry picking” by government officials is the opinion that there is no such thing as “global warming.” As one elected official said, “Plants like carbon dioxide. So it can’t be bad.”

Aren’t we all delighted when we hear that people who think like that that are running our country? !!!

Another is the opinion that “Smoking cigarettes is good. It generates lots of tax revenue.”

Actually, the only thing that smoking cigarettes does in my opinion is provide some of our elected officials with large campaign contributions. The added tax revenue is more than neutralized by expenses associated with the medical problems that smoking causes.

Those proposed DSAT organizations would probably best have three relatively independent directors, each with his or her own group within the organization. That would tend to keep the organization from becoming just another Special Interest Group that “followed the leader.” Instead, there would be some competition between the three directors and their respective groups to “get it right.”

Perhaps that would enable us in the future to avoid some of the usual government mess-ups such as the Gulf oil well spill of several years ago the present Medicare Web site debacle.

Comments, anyone, on the concept of creating DSAT agencies?

These are personal opinions.
