Bulletin Board Program - November 12, 2013 |
This is another plug for an effort to modify the WWWBoard program instead of using a different bulletin board program. As people have noticed, there are not too many people posting notes here. Years ago there were quite a few. One of the reasons for fewer people posting notes is the fact (in my opinion) that many geology specialists don’t like talking with earthquake forecasters or even sharing the same bulletin board. The WWWBoard program could be easily modified so that it generates three or more Web pages such as the present one that would take care of that communications problem. The primary Web page would be this present one where all submitted posts were displayed. Another Web page would show notes from only geology specialists. And the third would show notes from only people who were involved with or interested in earthquake forecasting. “Radio” type buttons on the primary Web page would specify to which Web page a post should be made. The post numbering system would apply to all posts. Ones in the geology Web page for example would show gaps in the numbers that corresponded to posts to the earthquake forecasting Web page. Notes posted to the geology Web page would appear on that Web page and on the primary Web page but not the earthquake forecasting Web page. As I said, those code modifications are very easy to make. Also, as the popular saying in China proposes, “Many hands make for light work.” It should be possible to get some of the Perl Newsgroup people interested in this effort as most of the programming would be done to modify a largely Perl language program. I have been discussing the WWWBoard program in the Perl Newsgroup. And people sound like they are interested in such efforts.
