Perl certainly has its limitations. But it is one of the few programs out there that can do virtually everything including function as a CGI program on probably every Web server on the planet. I never needed that much calculation speed in the past and so never attempted to get around that speed limitation. If Roger is willing to work with XBasic that is fine with me. I myself actually prefer to write Basic code over Perl code. My programs were originally developed using GW-Basic and had to be translated to Perl. That was a nightmare! It should not be too difficult to learn how to write XBasic code. I am guessing that TrueBasic was originally developed for use as a MS-DOS type of program. And its creators never generated a version that was specifically designed to work with versions of Windows past perhaps 311.
