message from National Science Foundation on Sequester

Hi all,

received a mass email on the Federal sequester. It is linked and includes the quote below:

"Because the sequestration order takes effect at mid-year, its impact is somewhat greater than might otherwise be the case. At NSF, the major impact of sequestration will be seen in reductions to the number of new research grants and cooperative agreements awarded in FY 2013. We anticipate that the total number of new research grants will be reduced by approximately 1,000."

They did not give the percentage of grants 1000 is; would be nice to know.

That's OK if I can't make a living; instead of trying to save the world working on climate change and active faults, I just consult for industry, to help them to find and produce more oil so that we can burn it and change the climate even a little faster. My new house is at 20 m elevation; what do I care about Lower Manhattan, or Bangladesh, or New Jersey (or Florida) barrier beaches.

OK, I just finished a report on a thesis to a French university; may have time to call my congresspeople.

Chris
