We were in Tonopah overnight in November at an old brick hotel (the Mizpah, and it was a great old place!). The region around there from Walker Lake to Tonopah--almost to Las Vegas, is dramatic, barren landscape. Given the topography it would surprise me if there were NO quakes in this region. Basin and Range with a vengeance. There are a lot of old buildings---brick and falling down wood--in small towns around Tonopah. Once these towns (Goldfield, Mina, etc.) were booming mining towns, but not much left now except you MUST remember to SLOW DOWN driving through them because they will get you, believe me.
