Re: Zima Chronicles |
Hi Lowell, I hope your injuries weren't to serious. But you know, in the middle of the night, thinking about falling can draw on some interesting memories. When I lived in Seattle and it would snow, it was always wet snow, so under that beautiful white cover was this dangerous ice. As I lived on a hill I watched people daily make their trek down and on one such occasion I saw this man having a falling experience. He was about 6'3" in his forties and seemed very in control wearing his cowboy boots. He reached forward to open the door on his mailbox and slid about six feet down the road. He gracefully got up, dusted himself off and got the mail. No harm done. But of course the best stories are personal one's and when it comes to landing flat on one's back, well I can do it as well as the next person. I can recall my first day in Junior High School. I was to meet my older sister in the cafeteria and so I arrived and a few feet inside the door I slid across the highly polished floor all the way up to her table. I could see her saying to her friends, "Oh, its my sister." You see my mother used to put those metal heel protectors on the back of my shoes and when the metal hits the highly polished floors, it knows no upright position! I am eagerly awaiting possibly seeing one or both of my cats trying to take a walk down the bannister of the new staircase at the new house. Its rather steep, but I'm sure one or both will have a go at it. Which just reminded me, Canie, how are your kitties? Calm now? Still nervous? I sure wish I still had that San Diego Zoo connection, it was terrific.
