Don's Petrolia prediction - preliminary evaluation

Don ...
I thought you might be interested in this listing from the PNSN
catalog:

from:
http://www.geophys.washington.edu/SEIS/PNSN/CATALOG_SEARCH/cat.search.html

AR200109160535-34.15 40N2723 126W2236 10.00# 1.5 8/008 336394 0.47 5.8DD J1

This event currently has the following parameters given:
40.4N 126.4W Sept 16 05:35 2001, Ml>1.5
However, as you will recall from our previous discussion of events
this far off the coast, PNSN usually underestimates the magnitude
by 2 magnitude units because their calculation does not take into
account the distance to the event. In addition, they usually
pull the epicenter towards shore by about 40-50 km. So, a probable
set of "truer" parameters for this event is:

40.4N 127.0W Sept 16 05:35 2001 Ml=3.5

Your forecast had been:

"Petrolia, California Earthquake Forecast
Posted by Don In Hollister on September 13, 2001 at 15:16:28:

Magnitude: 3.4-5.6
From: 09/14/2001 - To: 09/19/2001
Location: Petrolia, California
Lat: 40.2N - Long: 127.0W - Range: 40Km

Hi All. This one has a fair chance of occurring on the specified date.

The magnitude should be in the range of 3.4Ml to 5.6Ml. The location will be
at 40.2N/127.0W. This is about 240Km west of Petrolia, California. The most
probable date is 09/16/2001. The window opens on 09/14/2001 and closes on
09/19/2001. The radius on this will be 40Km. Take Care...Don in creepy town"

Compared to the most probable correct epicenter and magnitude
for this event, your timing is exact (the event occurred on the
day specified), the location is probably within 20-30 km and the
magnitude is probably at the lower end of your magnitude scale.
All parameters are probably correct, so the grade on this prediction
is A. Good going, we look forward to seeing more like this.

P.S. If you search at this site, you will need to change the search
criteria to include the magnitude (use -2.0), the longitude (use 111 to 145W)
and the longitude (use 32 to 54N) to see this event.
