I put this up on top because there has been a lot of posting today after the
W. Hollywood quake. It's a bit late, but this is a reply to the question regarding
FELT earthquakes in the vicinity of yesterday's Ml 4.2 in Southern California.
The NGDC database shows a total of 222 earthquakes felt within 25 km of
yesterday's epicenter. There have been four this year - two on January 14 and
the others on April 30 and May 3. In recent years there have been around
4-5 felt earthquakes in this region per year, except, of course for the Northridge
aftershock sequence. This was the most widely felt earthquake in the region
since March, 1994 during the Northridge aftershock sequence.
