Capulin Volcano

Hi All. One of the advantages of being part owl and part wolf is that I stay up late at night. This is when I do most of my searching for various bits of data until I get a probable answer to a question. I’m not saying that I found the answer; only that it may be the answer to I’m not sure what.

Did you know the quakes in Trinidad, Colorado are occurring 53 miles from Mt. Capulin, which is an extinct volcano in New Mexico? Most recent dating, based on argon-argon and cosmogenic isotopes, indicates that Mt. Capulin was formed about 62,000 years ago. Capulin Mountain is a large cinder cone in the Raton-Clayton volcanic field in northeastern New Mexico. The Raton-Clayton volcanic field is related to the extensional tectonics of the Rio Grande Rift.

Could these quakes be volcanic and the area of the quakes is over a hot spot? Could this be the makings of another volcano? Take Care…Don in creepy town
