Dr. Lucy Jones is a darling of the media, and vice-versa. When I attended a
conference on earthquake prediction several years ago, she sat with the
L.A. Times reporter and talked with almost no one else during the conference.
She was the model for the woman seismologist in the more recent movie
about an earthquake in L.A. several years ago (I can't recall the name of
that movie).
She has never been a proponent of "earthquake prediction" in the classical
sense and uses forum such as this to debunk predictions and predictors.
Even so, she has made some considerable contributions to seismology
and it would be worthwhile for anyone able to attend and listen to her lectures.
