Hi Petra. Good luck on your moving adventure, it sounds as if you will enjoy it. Your stories of windstorms and thunderstorms here in Seattle brought some vivid images to mind. I also have glass doors that open onto a deck and they "breathe" during some of our windstorms. To add to the excitement, there is an 80 ft pine tree that is just HUGE right beside the house. It's very strong and healthy and has lived through MANY windstorms, but to hear the wind racing through it's branches and see it whipping around is enough to make your heart skip a beat at times. A couple of nights after the Nisqually 6.8, I was sound asleep and was practically catapulted out of bed with fright when there was a flash and at the same instant there was a very loud clap of thunder that shook the entire house. I leaped out of bed and looked out because I thought the tree had been hit. The tree was fine, I'm not sure where the actual strike was, perhaps it struck the house and was carried down to the ground. Wherever it hit, it was really close and I have to admit that after the nerves had been set on edge that week, I was ready for mother nature to take a break ;-) I love to watch the thunderstorms roll in over the Sound and watch the lightning go from cloud to cloud and branch out across the sky. This can definately be a great place to experience some dramatic changes in weather and a few doses of natures fury :-)
