December 22, 1999 will have very high tides. It
also happens to be the winter solstice. The tides
will be high due to a combination of the Full Moon
and lunar perigee (closest approach of moon). Also
the earths closest approach to the sun of the year
is twelve days later on January 3rd (perihelion).
Not only will the tides be super high, but the
moon will be super bright. If you live in an area
with snow on the ground, you will have good enough
visibility to drive without using your headlights
(I wouldn't try it though, unless you live on a
lone country road that is straight and flat and
clear of snow drifts). If you live at the beach and this coincides with a winter storm or high
surf you could be in trouble. This is information
from the 1999 Old Farmer's Almanac. The year 2000
Almanac is now on stands, I picked up mine last
week, as well as the 2000 Llewellyns Magical
Almanac.
