Hi Roger,

Yes, a person would think that. But as I've repeatedly said in the past, the further away a quake is from me the larger it needs to be before I can pick up the signal (hence the rings with the increasing magnitudes). This also means that the closer the quake is to me the longer the duration of the signal and the better chance I have of happening to be monitoring at the time the signal is coming in (this part is really something I need to get fixed soon).

For example, an M5.2 at 20 miles would give me a signal for a good 1.5 days while the same magnitude at 100 miles away would give me a signal for about 2-3 hours. My chance of monitoring during the time that a signal is coming in during that 1.5 days time is far greater then it would be for the 2 - 3 hour signal (which is my reasoning for what magnitudes that I should be able to have a prediction out). It works the same with the larger events as well and the 6.7+ that I've been talking about at 100 miles is what I currently think a longer duration signal should be coming in for.

The above is in addition to what I had posted yesterday in this thread.

For my monitoring time, I usually get about 15 - 20 minutes early in the morning and 2 - 3 hours during the evening hours during the work week. Even less when something comes up and I have to be elsewhere. I have several more hours during the weekend. Thursday evenings though are my nights out with the wife and last friday was at a local high school football game for a school that my daughter attends. That friday night though, my primary wasn't giving me any signals which is normal for about 12 hours prior to the quake.
