I would think that the decision on whether to do something to get rid of an ant problem, or any other kind of problem, would rest with the person having the problem.

My preference is to get rid of them when I see them but not quite to the point where they'll be gone completely. Say I have a stream of ants coming from behind a kitchen cabinet, I'll get rid of all the ants that are already inside but I won't have the whole house fumigated.

That magneto thing sounds interesting. I'd always thought of getting one of those for rats, but hesitated due to it not limiting itself to just rats.
