Clarify The Tension Points on the San Andreas

Hi everyone,

Canie, your last post got me thinking. I've read before there is a 140 year average on that segment of the San Andreas (Tejon Pass) but at what magnitude? A 6 or a 7 or an 8? Also, as you know a lot of discussion and focus is given to the San Andreas fault south of there, by the Salton Sea as a locked segment and overdue by 300 years.

So my question on clarification is this: I never really gave the Tejon segment much thought....if just that segment ruptured, we would still have to focus on the southern segment right? So we would still have the threat of the big one even if we do have the big one at Tejon? Is it possible for a rupture to begin at Tejon and go all the way down to the CA/Mexico boarder?

Thanks,
Todd

P.S. This board rules for good info! Getting answers and info on CA and earthquakes on the net is so frustrating. I've exhausted everything on this topic of the southern San Andreas on the net and still don't know more than when I began.
