Hi Lowell. Never felt either one of the quakes. These quakes may be associated with the Zayante-Vergeles fault. It starts just west of San Juan Bautista runs towards the west for a short distance and then turns sharply towards the NW. The fault is 56Km long and has a slip rate of 0.10mm per year. It is though to be able to have a quake up to 6.8Ml. A friend of mine who lives in Watsonville can hit the fault with a rock from his back yard. He’s also not a very strong thrower. He lives on a hill overlooking the fault, which appears to be at the base of the hill. This is determined by the number of small streams that make a sharp turn towards the north before continuing down into the valley towards the west. The area of today’s quakes appear to be the only place where quakes are occurring on the fault. In the past there have been a good number of quakes occurring in the area of today’s quakes, but only a couple of them have been felt. In the past whenever we have had a small swarm there nothing has ever occurred that could be said to relate to that area. In other words we would have a swarm of 5 to 10 quakes and that would be the end of it. Of course one these days that may not always be the case. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
