Bay Area Creep/Black Point ELF Data

Hi All. Things in the Bay Area are getting interesting. There hasn’t been any creep in the area for the last 7 days.

There is no indication of any strain anywhere, but think this means very much.

I queried Tom Bleier at Earthquake Tracker. This site measures the amount of ELF in a given area. The site “Black Point” is at the southern end of the Rodgers Creek fault.

Here is his reply.

The activity at Black Pt is a bit unusual (starts on 28th and is still a bit elevated on the 30th).

The algorithm used for a "red" is simple for now. It takes the average of all the readings for the last 7 days and computes a daily average. The average of current day is then computed, and then compared to the previous 7-day average. If the current day is greater than 120% (the current setting for a data base value) than the 7-day average, the site is set to "red".

I have seen some similar activity at that site. The shape of the signals look "random" (like earthquake ELF signals), but they do not continue through the daytime hours. I would expect an earthquake signal to continue for several days without stopping if it were to follow the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

As can be seen he notes it does not continue through the day light hours so there is a very good chance that the ELF is not related to activity along the fault.

I would have to say that for now I’m just going to sit back put my heels up and watch. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
