A couple of years ago on my way back from LA the plane flew over the Carrizo Plain and I saw something very unusual. I've yet to get a definitive about what I saw, but perhaps I'll throw it out here again and see if by chance anyone has observed this unusual sight.

I saw three peaks and on top of all three there was a white comma. I've often wondered since then if by chance sand from the ocean bottom was uplifted and as they all grew in the same place, these odd "sand comma" formations were formed.

Has anyone else seen this?
