From what little I remember about magnetism, that's fundamentally impossible. Magnetic materials have their atoms aligned whereas non-magnetic materials are all jumbled up. For a magnet to lose it's power and then regain it, the atoms would have to be scrambled temporarily and then realigned, and the earth's field isn't strong enough to do that.
