Since an eclipse will always be at the time of the new moon, could the new moon itself be causing the increased seismology? Not the eclipse, per se, but the new moon that is part of it? At the time of an eclipse, is the alignment of earth-moon-sun any more perfect than other times? Forgive my lack of knowledge in this arena.

Also, please note that on August 12, 2045, there will be a huge Total Solar Eclipse with a path from Northern California through Florida - covering a large portion of the USA. This eclipse will occur almost perfectly at the time when the moon is the closest to earth - perigee. It is also a very close perigee, 357,291km - closer than most. Thus we have a more-perfect alignment of earth-moon-sun over the US at the time when the moon's gravity would affect us most.

August is also the sun-moon perigee - summer.

Sun is close. Moon is close. At this time there will be a greater lunar tide than normal. I don't know how often this sort of thing happens, but shouldn't we look at this more closely?

Lowell, can you check into this? See if it has happened before - the lunar perigee/new moon/total eclipse over the US - and if it happened before, were there major seismic events?
