Strongest activity in more than a year

There have now been 30 earthquakes in the Mammoth Lakes area listed by
NCSN in the 6+ hours since the UT day June 29 began. This is the largest in
a single day since June 22, 2000 more than a year ago, making this a very
significant regional swarm. Hard to say where it will go, but don't be too
surprised to see at least one event of Ml 3.5 or more before it is over. This might
be the start of a new period of activity in the region after nearly two years of
relative quiet. Hard to say right now, we will, as Don says, just have to put our
feet up and wait.
By the way, this renewed activity was forecast to occur in the Mammoth
Lakes region in the far-field aftershock forecast from Peru - coincidence or
is there really something to this far-field triggering idea?
