Preplanned board board inaccessibility and maintenance

As everyone knows, Canie and I are in the process of moving the earthwaves.org website to my care and responsibility. Part of the technical side of this is changing ownership of the domain name. The final steps of this process are being done automatically by the internet registrars as I write this.

For these final days of 2012, the domain name still points to Canie's host. On New Years Eve night, while everyone else is out partying like it's the end of the world, I will be updating the DNS entries to point earthwaves.org to my host, and making final updates to the board to keep messages current and making sure it's working correctly. The messages will be archived and we'll be starting off the new year with a clean slate.

This process may cause the website to be inaccessible for a period of time.

If you try to access the board during this time the following could happen:

In the case that you still connect to Canie's host, you will get a message saying so, and that your ISP's DNS servers haven't been updated yet. There is nothing to do but wait until your ISP does their automatic update. It should not take more than 24 hours.

In the case that your DNS is updated and points to my host, you will get the fully functional website. However, if I have not finished my final updates yet, there will be a messages saying you're connecting to the correct host (your DNS is updated) and that I am still doing those final updates.

In the extremely unlikely event of something going terribly wrong, I have set up a status page at the following URL:

I do not anticipate any problems other than some folks going to the wrong location temporarily until their DNS servers get updated. Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done about that. It takes a little time for the changes to propagate to all the DNS servers across the entire internet, and they may only update once every 24 hours.
