Well, you've definitely have gone further than I. My formal education is in electronics engineering. Didn't finish, but taking into account experience I should be AS level easily.

My geology/seismology/physics/etc... is all self taught.

But I've also learned a lot of critical thinking skills. And research skills.

One does not NEED to know everything. One only needs to know how to find the answers you don't already have, and how to recognize good information from bad. Those skills can carry you a long way.

Unfortunately, it doesn't always get you a job. :(
