Re: Board news and changes

All,
If EQF insists that the previous posts not be under Brian control, that is OK. But that would only be through today: post #1 kept in archives can be this one, or this thread. If EQF does not want any future posts of his in Brian archives, he should make his last post today.

I would hope this board going forward would not discourage amateurs, both those with a lot of knowledge and those that might know little and ask questions here. But, to use Roger nomenclature, I think it is OK to discourage the Pseudos. For example, I think Boyko was tossed from posting because he was making mass quantities of meaningless predictions and dominating the board.

I like that we can go "off-topic" now and then, and I do this. But EQF can dominate this board with excessively long meaningless posts, or the same thing over and over. I think we should modify the rules. You should be able to be tossed by majority vote of the main regular posters if a poster ignores suggestions by Brian and others. If Canie is going to continue to participate, and I hope she does, she can participate in those decisions.

No more posts on how EQF is advising government and they are listening some find this comical, some find it annoying; I find it annoying. Sure, EQF, Shan,Amit can continue to post graphs and predictions: it amuses Roger (or some other word). But we could do without overblown claims of success after deadly quakes such as Haiti: MR Rabbit and I were offended by EQF posts then.

And people like John V and I who work in the field could do without repeated inaccurate comments, again by EQF, that we are saying earthquakes can't be predicted and pseudo scientists can predict them.

This page has always had censorship. That is why I post here. You need to be able to toss someone. I had real problems with someone who was tossed from here (one of the same people that Brian had trouble with). That person, on another site (Roger warned me), said he would try and get me fired.

So, I suggest we have some new standards that most of us agree on, and if EQF cannot live by those standards, that he be tossed. EQF has made a few concise and correct science posts lately (acid rain for example).

Like Brian, what really did happen to the 2 weeks of posts that disappeared in October? Was there any veiled threat of legal actions?

I'd say any threat of legal action by someone who posts here should get that person tossed right away. EQF post on this thread comes pretty close to getting him tossed if I was running this board.

If there is a legal problem because EQF was involved in creating this board long ago (or Barbara, or anyone), then Brian could just start a very similar board with a different name and we just move there.

Brian, yes, you do have to be tolerant: no tossing because you are in a bad mood or you disagree with someone.

Canie: Thanks!
Brian, I would be willing to contribute $100/yr to your expenses running this board (poorly funded now and my fixed expenses are too high already, but $100 OK).

Lets get the quantity of science posts higher. Let's try and get some seismologists to post science. Let's encourage lurkers to post. Let's encourage amateurs to ask questions and make comments, on what they find interesting and what they do not find interesting.
