25 years ago today was the Oct 1, 1987 Whittier Narrows quake. At magnitude 5.9 it caused damage in several locations, notably the older parts of Pasadena, Alhambra, and of course Whittier.

I had just dismounted my motorcycle in the parking lot of tech school when the quake hit. I saw the ground waves coming towards me across the parking lot. The ground was visibly warping up and down.
