So you do have a legitimate reason for doing this!

I had a similar situation while running the Prediction Monitoring and Evaluation program for the USGS. The concern was that someone would make a wild guess and luck out, then gain undeserved credibility. The only way to counteract that was to have a track record on predictors.

Now I do it as a hobby, with improved probabilities.
