Hey! I used to live in Santa Clarita! I think that the smell you're talking about was after we moved but before a series of quakes or something. Our friends moved after it, but I remember there was something to it. They moved here to Colorado and as they got gas to leave town, had one heck of a quake while they were at the gas pump. Hope the ground behaves itself! Be safe; be prepared.
