Hi Chris;

I took a big lat-lon rectangle covering California but also including Nevada and a chunk of ocean and checked the Centennial catalog for mag 6.5+ quakes in that area. For those I computed the sun-moon angle and saved it in an array.

The table below is angle from -180 to 180 and number of cases. 0 would be new moon, +-180 for full moon.

-127 1
-75 1
-71 1
5 1
9 1
14 1
29 1
31 1
46 1
49 1
52 1
59 1
60 1
63 1
65 1
85 1
97 1
100 1
106 1
132 1
136 1
170 1
172 1

Not any preference for either one that I can see.

I'll go back and get local time and repost.

Roger
